General Updates

My initial round of pre-orders shipped on the date promised. The version of firmware that shipped with those is 0.7, newer than what most people have, which is 0.6. Firmware 0.7 had some general enhancements related to the algorithm so that this RC6 protocol would work better. The occasional remote that doesn’t, I believe is because the remote is operating at a different modulation frequency. I’m going to get to the bottom of that soon, and if this is the case, I may add an ordering option for this.

Because the firmware works a bit differently, this may mean that people upgrading from 0.6 to newer will have to reprogram their remotes. Not the biggest deal, but something of which I tried to effortlessly avoid. There is no way to convert a users configuration file because of the how flirc works.

FW 0.8 is what will be shipped to customers via the 0.96 GUI update. However, I don’t have a handle on the bug where flirc is not detected after sleep. I can’t reproduce this problem so it’s a bit harder for me to tackle. On top of this, I’ve been pre-occupied with windows issues.

GUI v0.94 and 0.95 released. These are general stability improvements and all the download links will be at 0.95 shortly, windows will be tonight most likely.

FW 0.9 will solely address the issue where flirc isn’t being detected after a wake on sleep, unless I magically figure out what’s wrong in the next few days. Here is where you can track fw updates.

I found out why wordpress wasn’t emailing me notifications for comments, so expect quicker responses there too.

Jason, I’m running the CLI version (64-bit) and haven’t received any of the recent updates. flirc says I’m running 0.9.8 with 0.5 FW. Anything I should be doing to get updates?
Also maybe this has been fixed, but my flirc stops being recognized after it is “flooded” with IR commands. Essentially it stops responding if I press and hold a volume key tied to my TV until I unplug and replug it. Using individual presses of the volume key works, but it gets a little annoying.

Since everything is built with dynamic libs, you can force an upgrade. But if you hang on a bit, I’ll push an update tomorrow. I’m trying to get in a few last things before this next release.

What is the reason for the price going from $19’95 to $24’95 ?

      Hi Carlos –

The initial price of 20.00, plus the discount I was giving was done with hopes that I would get more forgiving early adopters, but in all honesty, I was breaking even on every order.

During this whole time, I was really wanting to leaving it at 20.00, hoping at higher quantities, it would start to make more sense.

But with my recent order for more, I saw exactly how much everything was going to be. When you include product packaging and my yield hit, I couldn’t make my price target. Especially considering setting up a distribution chain. Once I sell to a distributor, they have to make money too, and considering this is a niché market, the quantities are always going to be pretty low when you compare to other consumer based products.

Anyways, I’m sorry, and hope that’s not enough to deter people from purchasing. I obviously want this to be as cheap as possible, so with increase in quantity, or decrease in costs, I’ll pass this on to customers without a doubt.
